Executive Director, Mays Cancer Center

The Executive Director of the NCI-funded Mays Cancer Center at the UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine (LSOM) is responsible for the overall administrative, academic, and clinical activities of the Center. The Executive Director oversees the cancer research, education, and clinical care of the entire University. The Mays Cancer Center has a formal and productive clinical operational partnership with UT MD Anderson Cancer Center for enhancing cancer care. The Executive Director provides leadership for a large faculty of physicians, scientists, nurses, educators, and trainees, as well as an experienced administrative staff. The Executive Director works closely with clinical and basic science departmental chairs and other center directors to advance the mission of the University. The Director is the primary liaison for the Center with the leadership of our regional clinical partners, including University Health and the South Texas Veterans Health Care System and other affiliates to ensure high quality cancer patient care is delivered in a resource-efficient manner. The Executive Director also manages the relationship of the Center with the leadership of our regional clinical partners, including University Health, the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, and the Brooke Army Medical Center. The Executive Director is also responsible for fostering a synergistic relationship with our regional academic partnerships in cancer research and education, including the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, the University of Texas San Antonio, and the Southwest Biomedical Research Institute. The position reports to the President of UT Health San Antonio for strategic planning and to the Dean of the Long School of Medicine for financial management. San Antonio is fertile ground for testing new oncology clinical treatments because demographically it is what the nation will resemble within three decades.
