Zavistovski
Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art
We partnered with the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art on the search for a Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is the only museum in the Southern United States solely dedicated to European and American Modern Art and its legacies.
The international search resulted in the appointment of Katia Zavistovski.
Zavistovski was previously the Assistant Curator of Modern Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where she co-curated the reinstallation of LACMA’s Modern Art permanent collection galleries and organized multiple exhibitions, including Rauschenberg: The 1/4 Mile, Hidden Narratives: Recent Acquisitions of Postwar Art, and On the Move: A Century of Crossing Borders. Prior to LACMA, Zavistovski held positions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Menil Collection; the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art; and SITE Santa Fe.
A specialist in 20th– and 21st-century American and European art, she has published writings on artists including Vija Celmins, Sol LeWitt, Eva Hesse, Oscar Muñoz, Mark Dion, and LaToya Ruby Frazier, among others.
Zavistovski holds a BA in Art History from Washington University in St. Louis. She received an MA from the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art. She earned her PhD in Art History from Rice University.
