Since 1993, Her Justice has provided life-changing services to over 45,000 women and children and has pursued policies that have improved the experiences and outcomes of hundreds of thousands more. The organization is committed to creating a more equitable and functional civil justice system for women in New York City, empowering them to build safer, stronger, freer futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The search resulted in the appointment of Alexia Korberg as the new Executive Director.

A seasoned constitutional rights lawyer, Korberg was formerly a partner at Paul, Weiss and was among the first out trans, non-binary equity partners of any major U.S. law firm. Over the course of their career, they established a nationally recognized practice in constitutional impact litigation, tackling landmark cases that address LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive justice, and the rule of law. They litigated well over a dozen civil rights cases in courts across the country, including three cases before the Supreme Court.

Korberg’s legal work has been profoundly influential in advancing justice on multiple fronts. They represented queer rights pioneer Edie Windsor in the pivotal Supreme Court case that established a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, and Mississippi’s last abortion provider in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Most recently Korberg challenged Idaho’s law criminalizing gender-affirming care for trans youth.

Throughout their career, Korberg’s approach to advocacy has been marked by a commitment to intersectionality, empathy, and storytelling. They have brought critical issues to the forefront of legal discourse, introducing evidence about the intersections of anti-Blackness, maternal mortality, and poverty in the context of abortion restrictions, and highlighting the racist origins of U.S. immigration laws in multiple appellate courts.

A tireless advocate for improving and diversifying the legal profession, Korberg’s work has earned them numerous accolades, including being named “Young Lawyer of the Year” by The American Lawyer in 2021. They have been frequently invited to speak nationwide on issues related to social justice, gender equality, and pro bono legal services.

Korberg earned their Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, summa cum laude,
and their Doctor of Jurisprudence from Yale Law School.
