Craig

Welton

Chief Development Officer

Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester

We partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester on the search for a Chief Development Officer. Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester provides programs and services to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Our work resulted in the recruitment of Craig Welton to the role.

Welton joins the team at Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester with nearly 20 years of experience in the Greater Boston nonprofit sector.  He started his career as a program manager, providing enhanced social and employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities at Best Buddies International.  Following roles in proposal development and grants administration at Boston Medical Center and the Medical University of South Carolina, Welton returned to Best Buddies to serve as the State Director of Massachusetts and Rhode Island from 2008-2018.

In 2018, Welton joined Northeast Arc as the Chief Development Officer where he successfully led the organization’s fundraising and marketing operations through a global pandemic and across the finish line of a capital campaign that re-developed 26,000 square feet of vacant retail space into state-of-the-art program space serving individuals with disabilities and their families.

The incredible work of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester, and the transformational impact the campaign for the Dorchester Field House+, attracted Welton to lead the organization’s development efforts because he believes the emphasis on serving kids of all abilities, from all backgrounds, and in the most diverse zip code in the Commonwealth will have a positive effect on the region for decades to come.

Welton received a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Saint Anselm College, Masters of Public Administration from Northeastern University, an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Duke University, and an Executive Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from The Stanford University Graduate School of Business.  He resides in Peabody, Massachusetts with his wife Emily, their five children and dog Hercules.  He also serves as the Ward 1 Councilor in Peabody, and is the current City Council President.  In his spare time he coaches youth sports.
