Director, New Markets

Ocean Conservancy

We partnered with Ocean Conservancy on the search for a Director of New Markets. Ocean Conservancy is working to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges by creating evidence-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it. They protect vital ecosystems, defends critical legislation, enforces accountability of leaders and legislators, and have rallied the world’s largest effort to remove trash from beaches.

Our work resulted in the appointment of Sara Murphy in the role.

Murphy has over 15 years of experience in Marketing & Communications at impactful, mission-driven organizations. In this role, her work is focused on reaching new strategic markets, conveying Ocean Conservancy’s unique value proposition, and engaging donor audiences.

Prior to joining Ocean Conservancy, Murphy led Marketing & Communications at Activate.org, which empowers scientists to reinvent the world and address climate change by bringing their research and innovations to market.

Her career as a brand marketer has included work at a groundbreaking social enterprise, respected PR agency, legacy arts organization, and several leading outdoor and lifestyle brands.

She lives in the Bay Area with her family.

Murphy received her BA in History from the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on the historiography of Filipino farm workers and the intersection of race and labor in the U.S.
