Our work resulted in the recruitment of Shamir Shahi the role.
In this role, Shahi oversees strategic initiatives internally, and is responsible for forging organization-wide collaboration to achieve strategic objectives, develop and track progress against annual workplans, and partner with the CEO in communicating with the Network, donors, thought leaders, and other external stakeholders.
Shahi joined GFN after serving as Chief of Staff at the Children’s Defense Fund, a nonprofit child advocacy organization that has worked relentlessly for almost 50 years to ensure a level playing field for all children. During his tenure at the Children’s Defense Fund, Shahi was responsible for providing strategic thought partnership and counsel to the President and Chief Executive Officer, while supporting the organization in matters relating to governance and social sector compliance.
Prior to his work at Children’s Defense Fund, Shahi spent over 15 years at the United Nations Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Ted Turner with his bold and visionary $1 billion gift to support the UN and UN causes worldwide. At the UN Foundation, as Head of Executive Office, Shahi provided executive leadership support to the President & CEO and served as the focal point for the UN Foundation Board of Directors and oversaw IT and Operations.
With over 25 years of international experience, Shahi, who is from Nepal, has lived and traveled to over 35 countries. In addition to English, he speaks Nepali, Hindi, and French. He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife Laura, an international development professional, three kids, and two Cane Corsos (Italian Mastiffs).
Shahi holds a BA in Political Science and Government from the University of Florida.
