Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Program Development, Department of Psychiatry

The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Psychiatry is seeking an academic psychiatry leader to serve as the next Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Programmatic Development, as well as Division Chai rand Medical Director of the Adult Ambulatory Division. As Vice Chair, this leader will be looked upon to build and grow clinical, research, and academic programs of excellence, innovate, and to foster collaborative relationships between the department and our clinical partners, the community we serve, and the academic medical center. The Vice Chair will be responsible for developing partnerships across the clinical spectrum with community hospitals across the VCU Health Enterprise, including Community Memorial and Tappahannock Hospital. The Vice Chair will also partner with the Richmond VA Medical Center and the VCU Gold Health, which provides healthcare for health system employees.

As Division Chair and Medical Director of the Adult Ambulatory Division, this leader will be responsible for the operation and growth of the Department of Psychiatry ambulatory division and clinical services in conjunction with their administrative counterpart and the Department Chair, including developing programs in subspecialty outpatient clinics and primary care practices. As a standalone division within the Department of Psychiatry, the Division Chair will oversee 24 faculty/providers with primary appointments in the division, as well as additional faculty/providers who provide ambulatory psychiatry services. The Division Chair and Medical Director will also evaluate the effectiveness of the Division’s clinical organization and implement changes as necessary to promote strategic and operational effectiveness based on appropriate performance metrics for quality, financial performance, productivity, etc.

Qualifications

Interested candidates must be a Virginia licensed or eligible MD/DO with clinical training in Psychiatry and certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Proven background in clinical care optimization, quality, safety and patient engagement. Demonstrated academic and clinical leadership experience in a psychiatry program at a major academic healthcare organization. Leadership experience should include clinical practice oversight, strategic planning, direct faculty/provider oversight, managing staffing and recruitment, fostering of clinical research, and faculty and trainee mentoring. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. Experience fostering and leading medical education programming that supports, develops, and mentors the next generation of clinical and scientific experts in adult ambulatory Psychiatry.  Demonstrated track record of active participation in multidisciplinary clinical programs focused on patient-centered care.  Academic credentials and experience to qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at VCU School of Medicine. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
