The Department of Medicine in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, State University of New York at Buffalo (UB), invites applications and nominations for Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine. UB is seeking an exceptional academic leader to lead and continue to grow the division of general internal medicine, including growth of research. Ideal candidates will have prior experience leading faculty in practice management, information systems and/or healthcare quality improvement.
The incoming Division Chief will lead and further develop the clinical operations and scholarship within the division of 43 physician faculty that includes both an inpatient hospitalist section and a primary care outpatient section. The rapidly-growing Section of Hospitalist Medicine includes 25 faculty and 5 advanced practice providers (APPs) who cover two inpatient hospital sites with both teaching and non-teaching services. The primary care section has physicians who work in hospital outpatient clinics, with a plan to re-establish general internal medicine primary care in practice plan outpatient clinic sites.
The GIM Chief will collaborate with other departments and divisions, expand faculty, create new clinical programs, provide effective mentoring and significantly re-shape the Division. The Chief will monitor clinical quality as well as financial performance and operations. It is anticipated that he/she will be an active clinician and educator and will be a visible leader and mentor. The Department of Medicine is the largest clinical department in the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, with more than 212 full-time faculty. The Department of Medicine is composed of 13 divisions, 3 residency programs, and 7 fellowships. Our research scientists and doctors have made important and internationally recognized contributions to medical science, including patents, discoveries and treatment advances.
