Senior Director, Urban Construction

The National Urban League is a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment, equality, and social justice. With 90 affiliates serving 300 communities in 37 states and the District of Columbia, the Urban League spearheads the development of social programs and authoritative public policy research, and advocate for policies and services that close the equality gap. At the community level, the National Urban League and its affiliates provide direct services that improve the lives of more than two million people annually.
ROLE SUMMARY:
The National Urban League seeks a dynamic, energetic, and results oriented individual as the Senior Director, Urban Construction Jobs Program. Reporting to the Vice President, Workforce Development, the Senior Director will lead a high profile federally, and perhaps in the future, privately funded workforce grant(s) focused on availing opportunities for or connecting underrepresented youth and adults, including women, into jobs in the building trades through apprenticeships. The Senior Director will interface with high-level executives across three organizations, the Urban League Movement, and the funder, the US Department of Labor.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
► The Senior Director will be responsible for day-to-day operations with the ability to see the big picture and details and commit sweat equity to ensure the pristine execution of grant deliverables
► Oversee full responsibility for delivering key grant requirements, including managing a team of professionals and interfacing with executive and senior leadership across the Urban League Affiliate Movement
► Serve as a compelling subject matter expert and thought leader on workforce issues, including issues intersecting with organized labor and the African-American workforce
► Attend and represent NUL at national consortiums, coalitions, working groups, or other relevant convenings
► Manage multiple and complex grants
► Ability to effectively carry out monitoring and compliance responsibilities as well as technical assistance supports
► Proactively engage with other divisions and departments within NUL
► Coordinate with local representatives and Urban League affiliates to establish meaningful placements
► Oversee and monitor fiscal and reporting requirements of grants
► Development and coordination of best practice assessment tools, curriculum, career coaching products, and cognitive behavioral curriculum
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
► MPA, MSW, or MS in a related degree preferred with prior experience in the social justice or workforce field
► 5-10 years of work experience in a non-profit managing federally funded program(s) in the apprenticeship or building trades space
► Developing and monitoring large and complex budgets from inception to implementation
► Track record for producing tangible and durable results, creating innovations, working in diverse partnerships
► Deep understanding of the impact of race, class, culture, and language on community development success and a commitment to reducing racial inequality
COMPENSATION RANGE: $90,000 -110,000 depending on experience
