The University of Connecticut is seeking an inspiring, dynamic, strategic, innovative, and transformational leader to serve as UConn Health’s new Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Chief Executive Officer. The new CEO will need to be a forward-looking leader who will bring new ideas for expanding services and sites of care for Connecticut residents.  He/she will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and overall management of the academic health center which is comprised of UConn John Dempsey Hospital, the University Medical Group, UConn School of Medicine, UConn School of Dental Medicine, dental clinics, and a research enterprise.

Position Description:

Reporting to University of Connecticut’s President, Radenka Maric, PhD, the CEO’s primary goal will be to ensure the system's success in delivering high-quality patient care, advancing medical research, and providing education and training to future healthcare professionals and developing an expanded ambulatory care presence. The CEO works closely with the UConn Health Board to implement the strategic directions approved by the Board. The CEO will be a highly impactful, creative, and bold and visible leader accountable for:

  • Spearheading the formulation and implementation of long-term strategic plans to drive growth, improving patient outcomes, and fostering medical advancements.
  • Overseeing the system’s financial health and assuring operational efficiency and development of new revenue streams, ultimately reducing the Health Center’s dependence on State subsidies.
  • Delivery of high quality, patient-centric care while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and provider and staff engagement; improving patient experience; focusing on health equity; and creating an inclusive environment that recognizes and embraces diversity.
  • Promoting UConn Health’s assets, accomplishments, accolades, and vision to bolster UConn Health’s impact and visibility throughout the State.
  • Partnering with a broad number of constituents to include civic, community and business leaders to develop new services and address community health needs.
  • Establishing strong relationships with institutional, local, and State leaders including the Governor’s Office, Office of Policy and Management, Department of Public Health, State General Assembly, and other government, community, healthcare, and leadership organizations.
  • Partnering with all physicians to grow service lines will be essential.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration or closely related area preferred.
  • MD degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of leadership level professional experience in a healthcare/educational setting; demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program planning and quality management.
  • Prior experience in senior administration of a health system that includes a hospital and multispecialty physician groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in transforming organizations.
  • Experience demonstrating effective/proactive employee relations philosophy required.
  • Experience leading staff represented by organized labor preferred.
  • Membership in American College of Healthcare Executives preferred.

This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Connecticut. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Bonus, retirement plan, relocation, and a generous benefits package will be offered.
