Vice President of Laboratory Service Line

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is in search of a system-wide Vice President to lead the Laboratory Service Line. A $24 billion health care provider and insurer, Pittsburgh-based UPMC is inventing new models of patient-centered, cost-effective, accountable care. The Vice President, Laboratory Service Line provides direct and indirect operational site leadership as part of the leadership team that has system-wide responsibility for the operational management of all UPMC laboratory services. The incumbent plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates system activities in Laboratory Services to ensure the achievement of business unit-wide goals that are consistent with the values, mission, and strategic plan. The VP works collaboratively with the Laboratory Service Line leadership team to identify and develop programs and services that meet and/or exceed the standards of UPMC quality, service and financial accountability. This position reports directly to the SVP, HSD & Chief Quality & Operational Excellence Officer, has eight direct reports and oversight of a total staff of approximately 1,850.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology/Biology/Health Sciences or related field, as well as a master’s degree is required.
- ASCP certification will be seen favorably but is not required.
- 10 years of experience including 5 years in a clinical role and progressive management experience.
- Ability to provide vision, strategic direction and leadership for system Laboratory Services.
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds and interests and within all levels of the organization, including executives.
- Ability to utilize complex analytical tools.
- Ability to market and develop programs and services.
- Experience in a complex, matrixed environment of relevant scale.
- Experience in an academic environment will be seen favorably.
