UPMC health care system is actively recruiting for a Vice President of Operations for UPMC Harrisburg, a 422-bed, full-service acute care hospital and flagship facility of the UPMC Central PA market and hub for the local network.  With over 4,000 FTEs, the hospital features world-class cardiology care, the region’s premier kidney transplant center, a state-of-the-art labor and delivery area with a Level III NICU, advanced pediatric care, and leading-edge care to include neurosciences, women’s care, and comprehensive stroke care.

Reporting to the President of UPMC Harrisburg, the VP of Operations will provide leadership to those individuals responsible for the clinical operations of the hospital.  Through emphasis on quality, efficiency and best practices, the VP of Operations will ensure that clinical services are delivered with a best of class culture by an accountable, effective operations organization.  The senior leadership team of the hospital includes the President, Vice President of Operations, CNO, CIO, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Facilities and Support Services, and the Senior Director of Human Resources.

Key Selection Criteria for this position include the following:  

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in operational management with at least five years’ experience at a senior executive level and a strong commitment to operations.
  • Experience working within a healthcare system and matrixed organization and in a competitive market.
  • Experience with various service lines including surgical services is preferred.
  • Superb communications skills, both written and verbal, and human relations skills.
  • Action and results-oriented combined with the ability to establish key goals, and drive and track results among multiple decision-makers and stakeholders and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and foster relationships through Integrity and Trust.
  • Ability to lead an organization using influence, rather than possessing direct authority of others, being sensitive, yet direct in both verbal and written communications.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented servant leadership mentality.
