Located in the heart of Boston, Suffolk is a thriving private university of 6,755 undergraduate and graduate students who are taught and mentored by 315 full-time dedicated and gifted faculty. The Provost serves as Suffolk’s chief academic officer and oversees the University’s academic enterprise and academic personnel. The Office of the Provost works closely with the deans of the College of Arts & Sciences, the Law School, and the Sawyer Business School to deliver a student-centered experience that fosters engaged learning, rigorous scholarship, creative thinking, and community collaboration. Moreover, the Provost helps to ensure that Suffolk’s emphases on experiential learning, career readiness, community engagement, and global perspectives are well integrated into the student experience and supported in ways that optimize student success and faculty excellence.

Assuming a pivotal role in the planning and implementation of Suffolk’s next long-range strategic plan, the University seeks an accomplished academic leader who will inspire its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. The next Provost will bring significant academic administrative experience appropriate to the size and complexity of Suffolk, and ideally will have a record of successful leadership across a number of disciplines. The candidate of choice will also have administrative experience with student retention strategies, academic support services, academic facilities, budgeting, and program assessment. This candidate will be a champion of faculty with an interest in supporting their teaching, research, and creative endeavors. Furthermore, the Provost will amplify experiential learning and strengthen Suffolk’s external partnerships.

The next Provost will bring vision, a spirit of collaboration, a highly relational approach, outstanding communication skills, authenticity, integrity of the highest order, a strong work ethic, and a clear understanding of the modern university to the work ahead.

The Suffolk Provost Search Committee will evaluate the applicant pool during the early months of 2024. Although applications will be accepted until a new Provost is selected, candidates should submit materials as soon as possible. The new Provost is expected to begin work no later than July 1, 2024.

Applications should include a letter of candidacy that responds to the agenda for leadership and the desired attributes for a new Provost outlined in the search profile and a complete résumé or vita.
