The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) invites nominations and applications for the position of Senior Vice Chancellor (SVC) for Academic and Workforce Programs. Reporting to the Chancellor of the VCCS, the SVC will be a proven leader focused on the strategic alignment, integration, and coordination of academic, student, workforce, and research programs and services to more than 230,000 learners annually. A key member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the SVC is a leading advisor who is charged with strategic leadership and delivering a differentiating vision for the System and its colleges as well as the divisions under its purview. 

The VCCS is comprised of 23 colleges with 40 locations, serving more than 230,000 students throughout the state. Headquartered in the state capital of Richmond metropolitan area, the system office employs more than 200 team members. Each of the 23 colleges is led by a President who reports to the VCCS Chancellor.

The SVC will provide leadership for a large and complex portfolio of responsibilities including the strategic alignment, integration, and coordination of academic, student, workforce, and research programs and services. In addition, the SVC will lead mission-driven initiatives for the VCCS. In support of the VCCS mission and strategic plan, the position will focus on integrating and harnessing the major divisions within the System, the preparation and delivery of the “what’s next” for Virginia’s Community Colleges and bringing to life the State Board’s vision for one system. Direct reports to the SVC include the chief academic officer, the chief workforce development officer, and the chief student affairs officer. The portfolio also includes the departments and functions for research and reporting, professional development, the Student Success Center, and internally focused strategic initiatives.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is approximately $225,000 - $275,000 with a generous benefits package.
