The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation (“PMAFF” or “the Foundation”) is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join their team as a Program Associate, Performing Arts.

The Program Associate, Performing Arts (“Program Associate”) will be a dedicated team member who is passionate about the arts and the Foundation’s vibrant and growing grants portfolio in classical music and theater. Reporting directly to the Director of Performing Arts, the Program Associate will assist with a variety of administrative, communications, and grants management activities.

The Program Associate will support the implementation of key portfolio priorities, including the mini-grants program, Chicago Latino Arts and Culture Summit, and efforts to deepen support for the portfolio’s theater grantee partners. The Program Associate will assist with grantee communications and inquiries from potential applicants for funding.

This position requires strong project management skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work collaboratively with many different constituent groups both internally in the workplace and externally with different partners and grantees. This opportunity is ideal for an arts professional from any of a broad field of disciplines, including performance, design, tech, education, or administration, who would like to gain more skills and experience in arts philanthropy.

Candidate Profile

While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, a successful candidate will demonstrate experience relevant to the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Respond to inquiries from potential applicants and other external constituents about the Performing Arts Program and the application process.
  • Provide programmatic and administrative support to the Performing Arts Program, particularly for Latino Theater and Music applicants and grantee partners.
  • Administer the portfolio’s mini-grants program, including communications and grants management.
  • Provide administrative and programmatic support for external events, such as the Chicago Latino Arts and Culture Summits alongside the community-led Steering Committee.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating meetings, site visits, and special events.
  • Develop communications and materials in advance of and following meetings and events.
  • Monitor progress of grantees, review their reports, and conduct grant compliance on all Performing Arts grants.
  • Foster relationships with community organizations, leaders, and advocates, particularly among theater groups and the Latino community, a growing area of the Performing Arts portfolio.
  • Attend relevant events, conferences, and meetings to stay informed about current issues and trends, particularly in the Latino community.

In addition, strong candidates will offer:

  • An undergraduate degree in the performing arts (theater strongly preferred) or at least 2-3 years of administrative or project management experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • A commitment to enthusiasm for the Performing Arts Program’s mission.
  • A commitment to or experience in serving the Latino Arts community—specific experience or passion for Latino arts programming and events is ideal.
  • A proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience in additional Latino arts forms greatly desired: dance, mariachi, film, fine arts, and others.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Protect the organization by keeping information confidential.
  • An innate capacity to be creative and collaborative.
  • An ability to adapt to change within a rapidly growing organization.
