Director of Hospital Medicine

Boston Medical Center (BMC) and the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM) are seeking an outstanding clinician, leader, educator, and innovator to serve as the Director of Hospital Medicine, a unit within the Section of General Internal Medicine (GIM).
The Director of Hospital Medicine is responsible for leading innovative program development and managing clinical operations for the Hospital Medicine Unit at Boston Medical Center, reporting jointly to the Chief of GIM and the Chief Medical Officer of BMC. The Hospital Medicine Unit provides care to a large proportion of the general inpatient medicine population at Boston Medical Center and is critical to the organization’s overall performance and success. Key characteristics of the Unit include 38 faculty physicians, 12 advanced practice providers, 7 inpatient hospital medicine services, collaborative care for patients in the Observation Unit and the ED Boarding program, integration into multiple resident teaching services, and attending on the procedure team. The Director will need to collaborate effectively with leaders across the hospital system to achieve program goals that are well-aligned with system goals, prioritizing high-quality evidence-based patient-centered care, patient safety, and clinical care that is efficient and timely. The Director will provide mentorship for academic and career growth for faculty and create a supportive team culture through excellent communication. The Director will also help support and develop new strategic initiatives to help the hospital system adapt to a changing healthcare environment.
The Director of Hospital Medicine will be a faculty member at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. The Director will receive 30% salary support for this position. Candidates with active research programs are encouraged to apply and should be assured that the Section of General Internal Medicine has existing resources to support principal investigators and their work. Research experience in implementation science or health equity is desirable. Specific programs at BMC include the Center for Implementation and Improvement Science and Boston-HEALHS, an AHRQ-PCORI supported Learning Health System Center.
