Assistant Vice President, Communication Strategy and Operations

Duke University seeks a strategic, forward-thinking, and inclusive leader to serve as chief of staff to the Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs Unit. The inaugural Assistant Vice President for Communication Strategy and Operations will supervise the operations pillar, including project management, for the Division and serve as the primary point of contact for all deans and schools/units across the campus. Reporting to the Vice President for Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs and serving as his delegate as appropriate, the AVP will supervise designated positions designed to lead communications around presidential priorities, including equity and global communications.

Duke’s Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs (MarComms) team is dedicated to inspiring and evoking emotions within the Duke community. As the chief of staff to the VP, this AVP will serve on the Division’s leadership team and manage all departmental budgets, oversee daily operations for the Unit, and shepherd special projects from the idea phases through implementation. The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred) and have eight years of experience in communications or a related field, with at least three years of experience in the higher education sector.
The is a full-time position, located in Durham, North Carolina. The compensation will be commensurate with experience and eligible for relocation assistance with a generous benefits package.
