Virginia Union University invites nominations and applications for the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the President, the CFO will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of the University. The CFO will play a critical role in planning and executing the growth and evolution of the organization. Located in the capital city of Richmond, Virginia Union is on a strong upward trajectory and has achieved record enrollment growth, increased revenue and increased net assets while reducing long-term debt. Fundraising has increased by 350% over pre-pandemic levels. Under the leadership of Dr. Hakim Lucas, VUU now ranks at #39 on the U.S. News rankings of HBCUs and is the only HBCU to consistently improve in ranking seven years in a row. The University experienced an unprecedented surge in enrollment with a record 2,068 students in undergraduate and graduate programs for the 2023-2024 academic year, an 11% increase from 2022.
The CFO will provide leadership and comprehensive oversight, management, and supervision of VUU's Finance function. The CFO will enhance the internal organizational processes and infrastructure to facilitate VUU's ability to fulfill its mission. The CFO will be a key member of the leadership team that is responsible for the operational efficiency of the organization as it builds capacity to support its goals of growth and expansion. The CFO will be a doer, managing, leading, and mentoring of 29 responsible for Accounting, Auxiliary Services, Payroll, Student Accounts, Procurement, Control, and Budget.
The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or related field along with a minimum of six years of progressively more responsibility in leading Procurement, Financial Planning and Analysis, Payroll and Auxiliary Services. Experience in a higher education environment is preferred, and detailed knowledge of GASB regulations required. Candidates should have a record of leading innovation and change in a growth organization; be technology savvy with demonstrated success in leveraging technology to support innovation; have the ability to oversee multiple projects and lead a team of high performing finance professionals; demonstrate analytical capabilities and an in depth knowledge of ERP systems.

Compensation: This is a full-time position that will be performed in Richmond, Virginia. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 with a generous benefits package. The selected applicant may be required to submit to a background investigation.
