Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine are seeking a dynamic leader with strong credentials in clinical medicine and clinical, translational, or health services research for the inaugural position of Chair, Department of Cancer Medicine. Requirements for the position include national academic stature, accomplished clinical skills, and demonstrable leadership and management skills to build and expand all aspects of this newly formed department, including the research and educational activities of the Department. The successful candidate will be excited to grow the former section of Hematology & Medical Oncology (formerly with the Department of Internal Medicine) into a world class academic department of Cancer Medicine.
The Chair will serve as a visible and inspiring leader and will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the Department of Cancer Medicine with responsibility for the research, education, and clinical missions. The successful candidate will have opportunity to define the future culture of this newly created department, leveraging the talents of a diverse group of faculty, staff, residents, fellows, and students as the medical school and health system enter a period of unprecedented growth.
This position reports dually to the Dean of Wake Forest University School of Medicine (L. Ebony Boulware, MD) and the President of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist (David Zaas, MD). This leader will also report into the Cancer Service Line through the Executive Director, Ruben Mesa, MD. Candidates should meet criteria for an appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor (strongly preferred) level.
