The Algorithmic Justice League (AJL) is an organization that combines art and research to illuminate the social implications and harms of artificial intelligence.

Mission

AJL’s mission is to raise public awareness about the impacts of AI, equip advocates with resources to bolster campaigns, build the voice and choice of the most impacted communities, and galvanize researchers, policymakers, and industry practitioners to prevent AI harms.

The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of AI and social justice. The Chief of Staff will have a bird’s eye view across the organization, connecting the dots and providing strategic guidance as AJL continues to scale and grow. The main functions of the role will be to provide support to the President and Artist-In-Chief, facilitate strategy and planning across the organization, spearhead special projects, coordinate communications, provide operational support, oversee finances, and streamline processes to ensure effectiveness.

A skillful conversation facilitator, problem solver, and seasoned leader, the Chief of Staff will have the confidence necessary to make thoughtful and considered decisions and will be content out of the spotlight, focused on internal operations supporting the external facing role of the President and Artist-In-Chief. Internally they will develop the necessary infrastructure to execute programmatic work, maintain relationships with funders, and facilitate the work of AJL partners that provide capacity for social media, platform development, and other programmatic needs. The Chief of Staff will work closely with remote teams that include full time staff, contractors and partner organizations, and hold a range of relationships with local, nationwide, and international collaborators. 

The Chief of Staff will be instrumental in shaping the future of AJL and driving impactful change in the field of Algorithmic Justice. They will report to the President and Artist-in-Chief, and they will share AJL’s commitment to leading a cultural movement towards equitable and accountable AI. We’re looking for someone with integrity and discretion, capable of building and maintaining trust with everyone. This role requires close daily collaboration with our President and Artist-in-Chief as AJL continues to expand.
