The Department of Neurology at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) is seeking a full-time faculty neurologist to serve as Program Director of the neurology residency program. The department is led by Dr. Carlayne E. Jackson, MD, a specialist in neuromuscular medicine and President of the American Academy of Neurology.
The goal of the Neurology Residency Program at UT Health San Antonio is to create well rounded neurologists who can flourish in either academic or private practice settings. The principal training sites are University Hospital, the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital, and UT Health Clinics. It is a categorical program that is growing to reach its ACGME approved level of 36 residents (currently at 30). UT Health San Antonio includes a highly diverse faculty and patient population, and commitment to the underserved of South Texas. Neurology also offers fellowships in neuromuscular; epilepsy; clinical neurophysiology; movement disorders; vascular neurology; and neuropsychology.
As an example of its commitment to the growth of neurological care, in 2024-2025 UTHSA will open the new Center for Brain Health which will unite neurology and clinical trials in one building. The 5-story, 103,500 sq ft facility will be home to both the Department of Neurology and the Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases, providing shared space for multi-disciplinary care as well as faculty administrative offices.
The ideal candidate will offer:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or foreign equivalent.
- Current board certification in the specialty by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), or by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.
- Current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment.
- Specialty expertise and at least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience
