The UWMC is one of the leading members of the United Way system and is a major civic partner and philanthropic catalyst in the Chicago region. Founded during the depths of the Great Depression, United Way of Metro Chicago has been meeting the human and social service needs of Chicagoans for generations by amplifying the community’s response to the most pressing needs in our region. Today, the United Way of Metro Chicago is a convener, strategic funder, service provider, awareness builder, and key partner in advancing equity and eliminating human suffering throughout Chicagoland.
The Opportunity
The Chief Development Officer, in collaboration with the dynamic Board of Directors, the visionary President & CEO, and the esteemed Executive Team, will craft the strategy for UWMC’s development efforts and execute on that plan. Additionally, the CDO will guide and shape the next set of strategic campaign goals.
They will oversee engagement initiatives, which strengthen constituent relationships, create awareness, and build constituent support for UWMC. This will include developing strategies to further engage high-level constituents including corporate partners and new and existing individual and institutional donors at all levels. This will increase their understanding of the role that UWMC plays in the community and thus increase their inclination to provide philanthropic support.
This leader must provide proactive leadership to enhance UWMC’s development vision and strategies in ways that both build upon its history/expertise and positions the organization to capitalize on the unique value proposition it presents for the region. By understanding the priorities, preferences, and trends within the Chicago philanthropic ecosystem, the CDO can tailor UWMC’s fundraising strategies to resonate deeply with local donors, thereby maximizing impact and fostering long-term sustainability. This includes driving an innovative capital campaign plan that envisions growth and expanded impact, new initiatives, and enhancing the overall infrastructure for UWMC.
The CDO will enhance UWMC’s overall approach to advancement - one that creates a true culture of philanthropy throughout the organization, improves and develops sustained success in contributed revenue, and ultimately fulfills UWMC’s mission and achieves its vision.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $250,000 - $280,000 and includes comprehensive benefits.
