Dartmouth College seeks an experienced, goal-oriented, and passionate leader for the role of Associate Vice President for Inclusion and Strategic Engagement (AVP). Reporting directly to Senior Vice President & Senior Diversity Officer (SVP/SDO) Shontay Delalue, the AVP will serve as a strategic partner, thought leader, and champion in the division of Institutional Diversity & Equity (IDE) and play a significant role in executing and assessing progress on the College’s current strategic plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion: Toward Equity: Aligning Action and Accountability. A highly visible leader across the institution, the AVP will represent IDE on councils, committees, and other institutional working groups, cultivating opportunities to address culture and climate challenges and building capacity across campus to support this work. Serving as the steward of IDE’s signature strategic diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives, the AVP will oversee a staff of 3-4 in promoting a culture of belonging at Dartmouth.

Founded in 1769, Dartmouth is a private, liberal arts institution, and member of the Ivy League, consistently ranking among the world’s greatest academic institutions. Dartmouth holds the Carnegie classification as an R1 doctoral university, indicating very high research activity across its distinctive academic areas: the undergraduate Arts and Sciences , the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, and its three leading professional schools – the Geisel School of Medicine (founded 1797), Thayer School of Engineering (1867), and the Tuck School of Business (1900). U.S. News and World Report ranks Dartmouth 18th among national universities and 5th in undergraduate teaching among national universities.

Across its 269-acre main campus, located in Hanover, New Hampshire, Dartmouth enrolls over 4,500 undergraduates and approximately 2,200 graduate and professional students. Dartmouth employs nearly 950 faculty (620 tenured and tenure-track) and over 3,100 staff. Dartmouth athletes compete in NCAA Division I as well as the eight-member Ivy League. For FY 2023, operating expenses were $1.1 billion, and Dartmouth’s endowment (as of June 2023) is approximately $7.9 billion. In FY 2023, the University attracted approximately $173 million in sponsored research.

The AVP will have a terminal degree (Ph.D., J.D., Ed.D., etc.) as well as at least five years of progressively responsible administrative experience with management in designing, delivering, evaluating, and/or leading activities, programs and services related to institutional diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social justice. The AVP will be an integral member of IDE, with primary responsibilities for internal operations and consistent maintenance of the DEIB programming of the division.
