Clean Air Task Force Chief of Engagement, Remote
About Clean Air Task Force

Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. Our mission is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector. CATF is highly respected for its deep expertise and research on energy and industrial systems and strategies, technologies, and policies that can radically shrink the impact of those systems on the planet’s atmosphere. Our team of experts and advocates (and a global network of subject matter experts and civil society partners) puts this research and knowledge into action by designing and enacting public policies that drive toward zero emissions. We also support policies and work directly with private industry to innovate in technology and business models to make the path to zero emissions swift and affordable. CATF has principal offices in Boston, Washington D.C., and Brussels, with 130 staff working virtually around the world.

Our Mission: Push the technology and policy changes needed to achieve a zero-emissions, high-energy planet at an affordable cost.

Our Vision: Meet the world’s rising energy demand in a way that is financially, socially, and environmentally sustainable.

The Opportunity

The Chief of Engagement will ensure the maximum impact of CATF’s work towards its mission through the cultivation of a highly respected organizational brand and highly effective external engagements. The Chief of Engagement will lead the development and execution of CATF’s overarching external affairs strategy and priorities, in alignment with the overall organizational strategy to drive impact and revenue generation and oversee key functions including Development and Communications & Marketing.

As a key member of the Executive Team, the Chief of Engagement reports directly to the Managing Director and, working closely with the Executive Director, is actively involved in making strategic decisions that impact CATF. This role will elevate key engagement functions of CATF and ensure close integration and alignment with our highly complex, diverse, and deeply technical program and advocacy functions in relation to our external engagements, fundraising, and thought leadership opportunities in partnership with their directors, the Chief of Impact, Managing Director, and Executive Director.

A successful candidate will manage and steward CATF’s brand, reputation, and strategic positioning to stay ahead of the curve, distinct from our peers, and attractive to a broadening portfolio of funders and decision-makers. The role will foster high-level external relationships with key stakeholders to build the organization’s global financial resources, impact, and visibility.

A successful candidate will be a passionate people manager, providing mentorship and sponsorship, leading a close-knit team, and supporting the continued growth and evolution of our development, communications, and marketing functions. Collaboration is a cornerstone of this role; the Chief of Engagement works closely with CATF function leaders and experts to cultivate opportunities and support the development and communications needs on both global and regional levels. The Chief of Engagement regularly collaborates with CATF experts, ensuring alignment and coherence in all external endeavors.

This role will ensure our external engagement efforts are of the highest quality, mission-aligned, and sustainably resourced. This includes supporting the identification and alignment of priorities and optimizing efforts to maximize impact while seamlessly integrating with other key functions across the organization in partnership with the Managing Director and the rest of the Executive Team. The role requires providing strategic input to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.

In summary, the Chief of Engagement at CATF is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing and supporting the organization’s fundraising, communications, and marketing efforts, ensuring CATF’s financial growth and sustainability, and enhancing its global impact and visibility to deliver on its mission.
