CNO & VP Patient Care Services at UPMC Northwest

UPMC Northwest is seeking a new Chief Nursing Officer. UPMC Northwest is a full-service community hospital offering inpatient care, emergency services, inpatient and outpatient surgery, and a range of specialty services. UPMC Northwest is located in Seneca, PA, approximately 90 miles north of Pittsburgh.
UPMC Northwest has 96 private rooms, including 30 that can be converted for semi-private occupancy, yielding as many as 126 beds. A one-story, 28-bed behavioral health building, part of the UPMC Behavioral Health Network, adjoins the hospital via an enclosed walkway. A nine-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and a 16-bed transitional care unit are also located adjacent to the hospital.
Reporting to the President, the Chief Nursing Officer provides nursing management, direction, and leadership for UPMC Northwest Hospital. This position is responsible for driving, supporting, and modeling a caring service-oriented professional culture focused on employee engagement, quality, patient safety, service excellence, fiscal responsibility, and the overall patient experience. The CNO serves as a member of the hospital’s senior leadership team, building and supporting effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external constituents and stakeholders and ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning. The CNO participates with leaders from the Senior Management, Medical Staff, and other clinical areas in planning, promoting, and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities.
Required Qualifications:
- BSN required; Master’s degree in Nursing or related health care field required; PhD or DNP in Nursing preferred.
- At least 5 years of progressively increasing experience in senior nursing leadership roles; depth managing diverse patient care functions in a hospital or matrixed health system of relevant size, scale and complexity. (prior CNO experience preferred)
- Proven background of success in a shared governance model structure; ability to communicate nursing’s shared vision for success. (Experience in a Magnet designated environment is preferred).
- Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, or ability to obtain Pennsylvania licensure; National Nurse Executive Certification (ANCC NEA-BC) preferred.
- Ability to successfully navigate a highly complex and matrixed organizational structure.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including staff development, mentoring, and coaching. Excellent communication (verbal and written) presentation and platform skills.
