The University of California Riverside invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement.  

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement (AVCSE) is an executive strategic partner for the Student Affairs organization with a focus on enhancing the student experience, increasing student success, and supporting overall campus engagement. The AVCSE directs complex critical programs and at times serves as the decision-maker in the absence of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs frequently represents the entire Student Affairs organization at campus and/or community events and activities, conferences, and while serving on internal and external committees. The AVCSE will provide executive-level leadership of the Student Affairs organization and is accountable for budget, financial oversight, and human resource management of the following units: Student Life to include New Student and Transfer Programs, Sorority & Fraternity Life and other Student Organizations, University Highlander Pep Band and Spirits & Traditions, Student Leadership/Development and Community Service, Associated Students Program Board (ASPB), Associated Students UC Riverside (ASUCR), Graduate Student Association (GSA), Student Media, UCR Student Recreation Center, KUCR Radio, Hylander Union, and the Career Center.

The AVCSE has significant responsibility for and is expected to lead organization-wide initiatives, decisions, and policy matters involving students and student engagement initiatives throughout the organization and University. Programs under the leadership of the AVCSE affect several major aspects of the academic and non-academic life for students at the University, such as career development, community service, fraternity and sorority life, leadership development, new and transfer student programs (Orientation), and student organization advising. The AVCSE will work with one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation and thereby must possess a passion for, and knowledge of, inclusion, equity, and social justice to be responsible for high-risk departments with sensitive issues and concerns about student programs, diversity, and crisis management. This executive-level position seeks to accomplish organization, division, and department goals, thereby creating and promoting a culture of student engagement and success, while continuously representing the Student Affairs organization. The AVCSE has a combined operating budget of approximately $15 million and is responsible for over 82 FTE.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: An advanced degree in a related area, 10 -15 years of related experience, experience preparing and administering a divisional budget, reflecting the support of strategic priorities in a division and the larger university, and previous supervisory/managerial experience are required.  

Preferred: A PhD, Ed. D., or J.D. degree and experience in effectively managing staff in a unionized workplace are preferred.  

SALARY RANGE: 

The budgetary range for this position is $123,000.00 - $182,200.00.
