The Primary School, a tuition free independent school focused on whole child and family well-being and thriving, welcomes nominations and applications for a creative, mission-driven and strategic leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer. Together with their partners, The Primary School is pioneering a new school model that brings together all the adults in a child’s life – parents, educators, medical and mental health providers – from a very early age to holistically foster student well-being and thriving.
ABOUT THE PRIMARY SCHOOL
TPS currently operates two program sites in East Palo Alto and East Bay, California, which act as its primary centers of direct impact, innovation, and learning. The school program is designed to support a child’s health, academic, and social-emotional development from a very early age through their formative years of growth, from infancy through early adolescence. TPS partners with families who are seeking a new kind of school model, and who may be dealing with adversity, past traumatic experiences, and a reliance on public systems that are difficult to navigate and that have historically perpetuated racism and poverty. TPS’ program also supports children with a wide range of developmental and behavioral needs. TPS works with national and regional partners to test components of our model and reach children and families beyond our direct program sites. These partnerships are an essential piece of TPS’ learning and growth strategy.
THE ROLE OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The CEO will bring excellent leadership and strategic abilities, proven organizational management skills, interpersonal maturity and emotional intelligence, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach. This leader will be chiefly accountable for implementing the strategic direction for TPS, strengthening existing programs and partnerships, and increasing the organization’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. Achieving operational excellence, the CEO will build and maintain a strong culture, lead effective operations across a complex, matrixed organization, and assess and implement high-quality program management. TPS’s CEO will also play an external role with partners, the community, and other constituents. This is a unique opportunity to lead a high-impact, entrepreneurial organization to its next level, exploring opportunities to leverage and enhance the organization’s current model, programs, and resources.
