University of Rochester Medicine is seeking a Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) to lead all pharmacy services offered under the Department of Pharmacy at URMC and UR Medicine. The UR Medicine Department of Pharmacy is nationally recognized among academic medical center peers for providing innovative and advanced pharmacy services across the continuum of the health system environment from acute care to home care. In addition to providing state of the art pharmacy services and direct patient care, the Department contributes to both the education of future healthcare professionals and the research capabilities of the medical center, consistent with UR Medicine’s overall mission. The Department consists of over 780 FTEs across the health system, including more than 280 pharmacist FTEs.
The Chief Pharmacy Officer is responsible for supervising and leading pharmacy services across the system. The position includes the obligation to promote continued growth and excellence in both patient-centered pharmacy care and fiscal contributions to the overall success of the medical center and health system. Contributions to the educational and research missions of the Department of Pharmacy as well as other departments and centers is also core to the larger mission of the medical center and university.
The CPO will lead the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the Department that advances the Department’s services and staff, encouraging a culture of innovation and collaboration to assure continued growth and success. The CPO will elevate and build upon a complex and high performing department, to assure exceptional quality patient care, financial stewardship, and professional advancement. The CPO will maintain a culture of leadership that promotes the advancement and growth of operational, clinical, and administrative leaders in the department. The CPO is expected to support a cohesive and collaborative environment that fosters a sense of community and engagement for all members of the Department. The CPO will also establish institutional partnerships and strategic relationships that will promote the success of both the department and the organization.
The CPO will be actively engaged in professional organizations and other partnerships that promote the reputation of the Department as a regional and national leader in pharmacy. The CPO will be viewed locally, regionally, and nationally as a subject matter expert and leader in the profession and business of pharmacy.
Candidate Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
- Residency training or equivalent post-graduate experience
- Formal business school degree (Masters, MBA, etc) or equivalent training preferred
- Clinical pharmacy practice experience strongly preferred
- Eligible for licensure in the state of New York

- Understands the operations and business details of a complex department of pharmacy within a health system environment.

- An experienced leader with the ability to secure the trust and build the cohesion of a large and diverse staff, and a strong appreciation of the critical importance of and synergy between patient-centered pharmacy services, effective drug use systems, financially sound plans, education and development to assure the future, and the interdependent nature of services across the continuum of care.

Compensation arrangements are competitive and will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s experience and achievements, and responsibilities of this position. The estimated good faith range for this position is $285,000 - $325,000.
