About the Adirondack Mountain Club

Based in New York State, with a focus on the Adirondack Park, ADK is a leader in providing outdoor education, promoting responsible recreation, and organizing stewardship experiences. Since 1922, the organization has worked to increase access to the backcountry by building trails, conserving natural areas, and developing a stewardship community that supports the ethical and safe use of New York’s outdoor spaces. ADK's 30,000+ members, 27 chapters, and dedicated staff, volunteers, and Board work to increase access to the backcountry by building trails, conserving natural areas, and developing a stewardship community that supports ethical and safe use of New York’s outdoor spaces.

The Opportunity

ADK seeks a dynamic, visionary, ambitious, and collaborative leader to join a unique and beloved institution with 100+ years of history as its next Executive Director (“ED”).

The ED is responsible for shaping the future of ADK: identifying strategies to increase visibility and awareness; expanding and diversifying revenue streams; promoting programs and initiatives; overseeing the delivery of high-caliber, unique, and engaging experiences for members and visitors; and fostering ongoing growth and engagement. Additionally, the ED is responsible for all operations and activities and is the primary face and spokesperson representing ADK to its diverse network and membership.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and leads a staff of 36 full-time, 5 part-time, and seasonal staff (15-45, depending on the time of year). Direct reports include the Deputy Director, as well as the Directors of Operations, Development, Publications, Advocacy, Finance, and Communications.
