The College of Pharmacy comprises the Departments of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Care and Health Systems, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and in 2022 added Departments of Occupational Therapy (established in 1946) and Medical Laboratory Sciences (established in 1922), creating an excellent opportunity for continued cross-collaboration and growth. The College of Pharmacy hosts 12 Centers ranging from drug discovery and development to orphan drug research, neuroscience, epilepsy, health care, and education. The College includes an Office of Professional and Clinical Affairs and a Professional Education Division.  In addition, the College of Pharmacy is located within one of the largest academic health centers in the U.S., with nationally recognized programs in public health, medicine, nursing, dentistry, and veterinary medicine. With all major health professions represented, the opportunity for interdisciplinary and interprofessional education is unparalleled.  Located across three campuses in the major commercial and cultural center of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Duluth and Rochester, the College of Pharmacy is renowned for its innovation and its commitment to supporting community pharmacy.

Founded in 1892, the College of Pharmacy has a rich history of educating pharmacist and pharmaceutical scientist leaders and, since its founding, has been a national leader in research, education, practice, and policy. As the only pharmacy school in Minnesota, the College has educated an estimated two-thirds of the more than 9,800 active pharmacists in the state. It is positioned to serve the needs of the state, the nation and the world in both urban and rural areas. The CoP’s long-standing commitment to research, teaching, interprofessional team-based care and its collaborative spirit has enabled it to be a nationally recognized leader in advancing research, clinical practice, engaging with communities and partners across the state and the country, advancing new models of care, and advocating for changes in healthcare.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Dean is the College’s chief academic and administrative officer and will oversee a large, complex portfolio, including 730 students, 134 faculty, 161 staff, 152 graduate students, and a budget of $57M. The Dean provides intellectual leadership and vision; is responsible for overseeing the College’s strategic, operational, and financial direction; and collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to advance the excellence of programs and activities. These include the University community; the pharmacy, OT, and medical laboratory communities in Minnesota; national and international stakeholders; and the broader public.
