THE ROLE OF THE DIRECTOR OF MIDDLE SCHOOL
Reporting to the Associate Head of School and working closely with the Head of School as well as the other division leaders, the Director of Middle School leads a division of about 230 students and 32 faculty members in grades 6-8 and is an integral member of the School’s Leadership Team. The director will provide the vision and direction for effectively inspiring and managing the Middle School division and ensuring a quality educational experience for 6-8 grade students, working closely with other school leaders to align student progression through the School’s three divisions. The director will have expertise in innovative approaches to curriculum and instruction, demonstrated success as a school leader and effective manager, and a desire to work in a Quaker School that leads students to lives that make a difference. The Director of Middle School will use the Portrait of a Penn Charter Learner as a guidepost to nurture our students as they become Courageous Learners, Compassionate Friends, Constructive Communicators, and Change Cultivators while fostering a positive, inclusive environment and collaborating with educators to uphold the School's mission and values.
The Director of Middle School will be an instrumental partner in addressing curriculum development, support for faculty, enrollment and retention, and parent and caregiver engagement.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
Exhibiting a deep understanding of curriculum and child development in grades 6-8, the successful Director of Middle School will value and thrive in being part of a close-knit, diversity-minded, and student-focused school community with a deep, rich history and strong sense of tradition. Ideally, candidates will have earned a master's degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field, and have a minimum five years of experience leading a middle school or similar division.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Penn Charter offers a generous benefits package as well, including 90 percent tuition remission for up to two children at a time for grades K to 12 and a 20 percent discount for Pre-K.
