About the Filomen M. D’Agostino Greenberg Music School
The Filomen M. D’Agostino Greenberg Music School (“FMDG”) is a pioneering community music school dedicated to empowering individuals with vision loss through exceptional music education. Founded in 1913 and established as an independent 501(c)(3) in 2019, FMDG provides comprehensive music instruction, access to adaptive tools, and performance opportunities, fostering accessibility, inclusion, and artistic excellence.
FMDG serves individuals of all ages who are blind or have low vision, including school-aged children, adolescents, college-bound students, professional musicians, and adults pursuing lifelong learning. Based in New York City, the school also supports educators, students, and performers nationwide through remote programming and adaptive resources.
As the only community music school in the U.S. with a sequential curriculum for individuals with vision loss, FMDG is a leading resource for musicians and educators. The school offers adaptive instruction, Braille and large-print music, and cutting-edge accessible technology. With eight blind or low-vision educators and a music library second only to the Library of Congress, FMDG sets the standard for accessible music education. Through regular performances, it enhances music accessibility for diverse audiences in NYC and beyond.

The Opportunity
Building on FMDG’s history and track record of developing and stewarding creative experiences for the visually impaired, the next Executive Director (“ED”) will provide visionary and strategic leadership to guide the organization’s growth, reach and impact.
Working with and overseeing a team of 6 full staff members and 14 part-time faculty members, the ED will have primary responsibility for fundraising, financial and operational management, strategic planning, creative leadership and marketing. The ED will also serve as the face of the school, representing FMDG at performances and events and actively participating in the school’s musical pursuits while promoting its mission and impact.
The ED will also serve as the primary spokesperson of FDMG as it engages with local cultural organizations, musicians, educational institutions, artists, donors and funders, political bodies, civic groups, businesses and the media.
Finally, the ED will oversee – and build strong connections between – FMDG’s programming and the communities it serves through deep engagement, partnerships, and collaborations, and by advocating for the School and the visually impaired and its offerings in a variety of public settings.
