Meharry Medical College, located in Nashville, TN, and the nation’s largest private, historically Black academic health sciences center, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Senior Vice President for Finance serves as Chief Finance Officer of the institution, reporting directly to the President/CEO and serves as a member of the President’s senior leadership team. Responsibilities include serving as an advisor to the President, the Board of Trustees and other senior managers of the College regarding accounting and reporting practices, budget administration, financial regulatory compliance requirements, treasury management, endowment management, debt management, and retirement funds administration and management. The CFO participates in developing the strategic plan and facilitates the conversion of established priorities into long-term, capital and operating budgets. The CFO is the staff liaison to the Board of Trustees Finance committee and provides information to the Audit Committee regarding financial and internal control matters and also serves as secretary-treasurer for the College’s Housing Corporation.
Meharry is seeking a seasoned, inspiring, innovative and transformational finance leader. Key Selection Criteria for this position includes the following:
- A Master’s degree in a related field is required; an MBA is preferred. CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of experience administering a successful fiscal management program in a complex organization, of which at least five years must be at an executive level (CFO, VP, AVP or Director).
- Recent experience in an academic health science center strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in strategic financial planning and investment management, debt financing, and cash flow management.
- Experience in re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Prior experience with the Workday business platform is preferred.
- Knowledge of the structure, operations and requirements of federal, state, and local financial regulatory and funding agencies.
- Highly developed leadership, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of constituents in an academic health center institution.
