The South Carolina State University Foundation seeks an innovative leader to guide the organization toward expanded reach and impact. The Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) entity organized solely to promote the welfare and future development of South Carolina State University. Chartered in 1971 to support the University’s educational goals, the Foundation administers and manages all contributions made to the Foundation, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, financial management, reporting, and the proper stewardship of contributions. The Foundation processes contributions, which encompasses the collection, recording, acknowledging, and reconciliation of donations.

 Located in Orangeburg, South Carolina, SC State University is committed to providing affordable and accessible quality baccalaureate programs in the areas of business, applied professional sciences, mathematics, natural sciences, engineering, engineering technology, education, arts, and humanities. SC State is the second fastest growing university in South Carolina and has a strong fiscal position, having received record investment from the State of South Carolina. With over $18 million in investments, the University is constructing new buildings including the first new academic building built by the State in over 30 years, and renovating other landmark properties. The University recently completed its first strategic plan, with aspirations to become an R2 research university within the next five years.

 Responsible to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director manages the day-to-day affairs of the Foundation in a manner consistent with its stated mission and for the development and implementation of a strategic plan that aligns with the University’s and establishes guidelines for effective donor cultivation and strong corporate and community relations. This position is responsible for all staff support activities necessary to fulfill the purposes as defined in the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws of the Foundation by ensuring that effective infrastructure systems are in place, including oversight of the Foundation’s investment portfolio and coordinating fund disbursement. It is the responsibility of the Executive Director to educate the public about the organization’s vision, mission, goals and opportunities to support the University through the Foundation.

 The Executive Director will build upon the existing infrastructure and develop and enforce written processes and procedures related to gift processing and management reporting. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field of study; a related advanced degree and fundraising certification preferred; at least 5-8 years of senior-level management experience with a demonstrable record of comprehensive fundraising, donor cultivation, resource development, financial and investment management, strategic planning, budget development, public relations/communications, and employee supervision and evaluation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong business background, change management, and team leadership abilities; financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets, endowments, and real estate development; experience working with nonprofit boards; and exude passion for the mission of an HBCU.

This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in South Carolina. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000 with a generous benefits package. The selected applicant may be required to submit to a background investigation.
