Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) is a 501 (c)(3) organization and one of the largest providers of sexual and reproductive health care in Illinois. Its mission is to ensure access to sexual and reproductive health care through the provision and promotion of compassionate, comprehensive reproductive health care, education, and rights.
Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (PPIA) is an aligned 501(c)(4) organization that provides political action and advocacy to support the mission of Planned Parenthood of Illinois.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois and Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (referred to collectively as “PPIL”) serve Illinoisans through Planned Parenthood’s four-pronged approach, with its patients and communities at its center.
- Healthcare: PPIL’s caring and skilled health care professionals serve over 60,000 patients annually with high-quality, affordable medication and procedural abortion, contraceptive services, gender-affirming care, STI testing and treatment, cancer screenings, and more. PPIL provides care through 13 health centers across the state, telehealth, and the PPDirect App.
- Education: PPIL’s educators serve over 20,000 people each year through its age appropriate, comprehensive, and medically accurate sexual health education trainings and programs that empower women, men, teens, and families to make informed choices and lead healthy lives.
- Advocacy: Through the work of PPIA, Planned Parenthood advances sexual and reproductive health and justice for Illinoisans through non-partisan political action, advocacy, and education.
- Research: PPIL is proud to be a leader in sexual and reproductive health research. Our dedicated Research team partners with staff, patients, and community partners to generate data and knowledge in order to drive policy, improve access to and quality of care, and serve the PPIL community.
The Opportunity
Planned Parenthood of Illinois seeks a strategic, inspirational, resilient, and proven President & Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) to lead courageously through this important chapter of the organization.
At this pivotal time in the history of Planned Parenthood and reproductive rights in America, this leader will be part of a national network of Planned Parenthood CEOs and coalitions working to protect and expand access to comprehensive and quality health services for all people. This is a tremendous opportunity for a visionary leader with a passion for service to join a storied organization and collaborate with its constituents to chart a pathway for PPIL’s future growth and impact.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for an operating budget of $55 million, staff of 320, and the planning, directing, organizing, and coordinating of all activities in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives as set by the Board. The CEO will work alongside a strong leadership team to harness and leverage organizational growth, while continuing to strategically expand the organization’s impact. The CEO will execute the organization’s vision, define bold short-term and long-term goals, and co-create a cohesive, targeted strategic plan, working with a wide variety of internal and external constituents to implement, adapt, and modify it as needed.
The ideal candidate will work to further develop and leverage the expertise of a strong internal team to evaluate systems and services and find opportunities for creative solutions and innovative care while considering the diverse regional needs of the organization. External priorities include fortifying trust and collaboration with PPIL's external partners, including expanding PPIA's influence. As Illinois becomes a destination state for abortion and gender-affirming care, there is a monumental opportunity to strengthen relationships and cement Planned Parenthood as a critical voice in the regional and national conversation related to forward-thinking systems of care.
While internally managing both the day-to-day and overall strategic approach of PPIL, the CEO will need to externally serve as a leader, face, and voice of PPIL’s mission to create and protect access to quality reproductive health care for all. The CEO will embody Planned Parenthood’s commitment to equity and justice and will work tirelessly to embed those convictions in all the work that they do while striving to serve patient communities in new and innovative ways.

While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, strong preference for candidates who can offer:
- Experience leading and directing an integrated direct service, policy, and advocacy strategy.
- Proven leadership within progressive health access and equity movements.
- Experience leading within a nonprofit organization of significant size, scale, and complexity.
- Political savvy with a demonstrated ability to quickly build trust with others; existing relationships and/or ability to build relationships with influential private, public, and nonprofit stakeholders within Illinois.
- Demonstrated success in leading a robust unrestricted fundraising program and strategy.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $375,000 - $400,000. Compensation with a generous benefits package, including Health, Dental, Vision, 401(k) Retirement with match after one year and vesting after two years, Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Paid Time Off, and more.
