CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
WELLSTAR COLUMBIA COUNTY HOSPITAL
Wellstar, one of the largest health systems in Georgia and known nationally for its innovative care models focused on quality improvement and increased access to healthcare, is seeking a Chief Operating Officer for Wellstar Columbia County Hospital, a new hospital under construction in Metro Augusta, GA. Columbia County is one of the fastest growing counties in Georgia. When completed, it will be the only hospital in Columbia County and will offer the most advanced, comprehensive care to the people of Columbia County. This new five floor full-service acute care facility will feature 100 Acuity Adaptable Beds; an emergency department planned to be a Level II trauma center with 19 ED Treatment Rooms; 5 Imaging Modalities (CT, MRI, RAD/FLUORO, Ultrasound, Mammo); and 6 Operating Rooms + CATH/IR Suites. The new hospital will also have an adjacent 92,000-square-foot medical office building that will include primary care, women’s health and other specialties.
Wellstar MCG Health, headquartered in Augusta, includes a 478-bed adult hospital, the 154-bed Children’s Hospital of Georgia, the Georgia Cancer Center, and more than 80 outpatient clinics across Georgia and South Carolina.
Reporting to the President of Wellstar MCG Health, the management span of responsibility for this leader is diverse with broad organizational implications and complexity characterized by a large scope of responsibility. This leader will liaison with the President at the system level for designated initiatives and priorities. The COO must be able to execute on strategy and ensure the organization, once open, operates efficiently while providing high quality, safe patient care.
The new COO will be a self-reliant, experienced executive who will manage the facility’s day-to-day operations and, as the key leader at the Hospital, will play a pivotal role in defining and leading the future vision for the Hospital and enhancing the organization’s reputation as the premier patient centered care medical center in the market.
Key Selection Criteria for this position includes the following:
- A Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field.
- 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in a hospital/healthcare environment in a competitive market.
- Experience working within a system and in a matrix operating structure is strongly preferred.
- Innovative with demonstrated ability to execute on strategies in a manner that ensures the organization will operate at maximum efficiency.
- Prior experience in hospital construction and renovation projects is a plus.
- Strong metrics-driven performance improvement background is important, as is the ability to coach leaders to higher levels of accountability and execution.
- Visible leader with highly developed leadership, interpersonal, communication, and business planning skills.
- Prior experience in program development and enhancing and growing key services and revenue.
