About Miami Country Day School

Miami Country Day School (MCDS) is a coeducational, nonprofit, independent day school serving approximately 1,380 students from Pre-K3 through Grade 12. Rooted in a mission to educate the whole child, MCDS fosters intellectual curiosity, global citizenship, and strength of character. Our mission and core values—Honor, Respect, Wisdom, Compassion, and Purpose—guide all decision-making.

Located in the vibrant, diverse city of Miami, the MCDS school community embraces innovation, excellence, and a deep commitment to student-centered learning. With robust academic offerings and outstanding arts and athletics programs, MCDS ensures that every student is empowered to learn with vigor, explore with purpose, strive for excellence, and serve with integrity.

The feeling of community is palpable as soon as students step onto campus. MCDS strives to cultivate an environment that is both inviting and inspiring; from the very moment they arrive, students have access to such experiences as the one-of-a-kind Abess Center for Environmental Studies, the fully-equipped Center for the Arts, and the Garner Center for Innovation.

With a culture that nurtures innovation and creativity, and strives for excellence, all while balancing physical and mental wellness, MCDS prepares students for not only college but for life beyond schooling. MCDS students are tomorrow’s leaders, and the School prepares them to take on that task with purpose, an enlightened global perspective, and an enduring spirit of kindness.

The Role of Director of College & Academic Counseling

Miami Country Day School (MCDS) seeks an innovative, strategic, and mission-driven Director of College & Academic Counseling to lead its recently expanded team of experienced counselors with the opportunity to strengthen the 9th-12th grade college curriculum and process and develop new programming.

To be successful in this role, candidates must bring a deep commitment to building strong relationships within an educational community, collaboratively fostering growth and development within a team, and successfully planning and executing strategies that foster positive outcomes while staying true to mission. They should be eager to immerse themselves in a close-knit school community and demonstrate the energy and drive to fully realize MCDS’s potential, bringing creativity and fresh insight where needed and implementing best practices that will ensure future success for college and academic counseling at MCDS, both short- and long-term.

The Director will be a visionary leader, an expert in college admissions, and an advocate for students as they navigate the complexities of the college application process. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic professional to build on MCDS’s tradition of excellence while adapting to the evolving landscape of higher education.

Reporting to the Director of Upper School, the Director of College & Academic Counseling will oversee the continued development of a comprehensive 9th- 12th-grade C&AC curriculum and will engage deeply with students, families, faculty, and college admissions professionals. The Director will be an integral member of the Upper School leadership team, collaborating with faculty, student support staff, and the school community to ensure a holistic and personalized approach to college planning.
