UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) seeks a visionary academic leader to serve as Director, Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. UT Health San Antonio, part of The University of Texas System, is the major source of health professions education and life sciences research in South Texas and is a major center for patient care in South Texas. The Department of Emergency Medicine at UT Health San Antonio maintains a thriving clinical practice treating over 80,000 patients in the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments at University Health System (UHS)/University Hospital. University Hospital is a premiere quaternary care hospital designated a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center, STEMI center, and Pediatric Burn Center. In fact, it houses South Texas’ only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center with 24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons and other pediatric specialists. Additionally, it is the only hospital in San Antonio with a 24-hour emergency department dedicated to the special needs of women for obstetrics emergency services and gynecology emergency services.
Actively involved in undergraduate and graduate medical education, the department trains 36 Emergency Medicine Residents, medical students though a mandatory 3rd-year clerkship, 4th year selective, and several other Emergency Medicine specialty electives, and sponsors several fellowships including Clinical Ultrasound, Global Health and Clinical Ultrasound, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Education, Disaster Medicine, and Wilderness Medicine.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Chair of Emergency Medicine, the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division Director will be involved in all aspects of managing the Pediatric Emergency Department and will work closely with the Chair, UHS EM Medical Director and hospital administration. This leader will direct the Pediatric Emergency Department clinical service while also advancing the institution's academic mission including supporting current residency programs and potential future development of a PEM fellowship program. The Director will collaborate closely with University Health System administration to grow pediatric ED volume, improve the care of pediatric patients in the region, and support strategic planning towards the opening of the new Pediatric ED as UTHSA completes construction of its new Women’s & Children’s Hospital in 2023.
Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine through ABEM or ABP.
- Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, for practice of medicine in the State of Texas.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing emergency medicine physician.
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience at an academic medical center.
- Established track record of peer-reviewed research, excellence in education and outstanding clinical service.
This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Texas. Salary commensurate with experience with a generous benefits package.
